About Me

Rocky Jackson is a native Texan who has lived in the Los Angeles area for many years. In June 2006, High Life Records released Rocky's latest Blues album, Squeeze Here; a collection of contemporary and traditional Blues, which includes ten of Rocky's songs and covers of songs by Willie Dixon and John "Juke" Logan.During the recording of the album, Rocky put together a band with some of the musicians from the sessions. The current band is Rocky Jackson and The Ignitors which is based in the Los Angeles area. The Ignitors are: Eliot "Lee" Witherspoon, drums & vocals; rotating bass players including Hank Van Sickle (John Mayall), Mike Hightower, Tom Leavey (Mannish Boys), and Joel Johnson; and Michael Fell, harmonica.Squeeze Here features The Ignitors (including original harmonica player A.C. Blue) and other special guests including: keyboards (Steve Bach - now musical director of Cirque de Soliel in Macau), bass (Michael Mennell - now with Tom Jones), and sax (Mel Steinberg). The album has gotten continuous airplay since the release in June 2006. Songs from Squeeze Here have been played on stations in four continents. There has been a lot of interest in the album in Europe, especially France and the U.K. The album has gotten regular airplay, on a daily basis, on several stations on the Blues channel of live365.com, including Bluebird Blues, Blues Groove, Electric Blues 56 and 16, Bandit Blues Radio, Ultimate Blues, Electric Blues Review, Lightin' Rod Blues, and Helsinki Blues Cafe, as well as weekly airplay on many other stations in the U.S. and abroad. To date all 13 songs from the album have been aired on radio. Several songs have been featured on Blues programs; including "Blues Deluxe" broadcast from Texas; "Blues Highway" broadcast on KLBC.org from Long Beach, CA; Mark Kerr's "Blues Nation," Les Lewellyn's "Road Rash Blues," "Texas Blues Cafe," and several programs in Europe and Canada. Sounds Like: Rocky’s sound is a mix of traditional Blues roots and contemporary Blues sounds. Rocky’s heavy influences include Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed, Little Walter, Magic Sam, Willie Dixon, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Elmore James, Robert Johnson, Otis Rush, and early Clapton, among many other great Blues artists. An album review of Rocky’s CD, Squeeze Here, which appeared in Blues Matters! magazine published in England, made comparisons of Rocky’s guitar work with "Clapton vintage 1965" and recommended fans of early Robert Cray to add Squeeze Here to their collection.Rocky also has been profoundly influenced by Delta and early Chicago Blues. For a taste of how Rocky delivers classic Blues, check out the video of Long Distance Call or his version of Back Door Man, featuring some screaming lap steel guitar. Evil Personified - Live
