Hannes. A man, a name, and a guitar. What more do you need to know?
Hannes, born in 1983 was on the stage for the first time in 2000. Back then he was in baggy-pants and a baseballcap, rapping with a friend under the moniker “Querbeatâ€. One year later he was performing live Hip Hop with a band called “Phanjazzticsâ€, fusing older Jazz and Latin-American style with newer funk and reggae. Two years later he came to the band “New Culture†with which he was playing on many stages across Germany for three years. With this band Hannes found the opportunity to establish his abilities as a singer/songwriter, composing all songs on the album “Kopf hoch†almost entirely in German.
An influential saying for Hannes, “A songwriter must be able to play the guitar†gave him cause to pick up the six-string and learn to accompany his own singing. It was around this time that Hannes once again switched styles from reggae to a kind of music that has its roots in such singer songwriter legends as Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. Hannes has a strong sense of the artist as an individual, rendering most genre descriptions artificial and void. His interest is in telling stories in a poetic and human manner, with humour and harmony. As with all good music, it has to be heard and felt to be understood. The only way to do this is to come see him perform, any chance you get.
