Born in the city of Trabzon in northeast Turkey, Sanem thrived in the bustling music and culture of the Black Sea. She moved to the capital city of Ankara in 1996 where she accepted in Ankara Anatolian High School of Fine Arts in Music Department. It was at this school that she studied the cello with the Oguzhan Kavruk. Kavruk, the first cellist for the Presidential Symphony Orchestra (CSO), played a major role in developing her abilities. During this period she teamed up with music festivals in Europe and Turkey.In 2000 She was accepted in Gazi University to study teaching. Here she further developed her skills on the cello with Sinasi Cilden, cellist in CSO, and Dr. Sebnem Orhan.After graduation, Sanem enrolled in a masters program. During her second year, she decided to pursue a life singing jazz and moved to the Netherlands in 2007.Currently she is studying her 2nd year at Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, Holland alongside other great musicians like, Dena de Rose, Sanna van Vliet, David Berkman, Floor Van Zutphen, Francien van Tuinen, Joris Teepe, Ralph Peterson, Don Braden, Freddie Bryant, Mark Gross, Alex Sipiagin, Kurt Weiss, Steve Altenberg,... Besides she worked with other great musicians as Nancy Marano, Judy Neimack, Peter Eldridge, Abbigail Recards, Gloria Cooper ... During this study she has been performing for her own projects and many different projects around Europe, where in some of the projects she also plays cello.On 8th of February 2009 she won the 2nd prize of Nederlands Jazz Vocal Concour in Theater De Spieghel, Zwolle.She will be participating in European Jazz Academy Arbeitsphase Bigband Workshop with Peter Herbolzheimer and Judy Neimack in June.
