About Me
Jean-Paul began his career as a DJ and MC as early as 1984 at the age of 9. He developed his skills over the years in the art of mixing and scratching as well as beat construction utilizing platforms such as Cubase and the Akai MPC 2000. After attending his first rave in 1992 at The Shelter in NYC (NASA) he naturally took on the role of promoter and became a resident DJ in the chill out room nearly every Friday opening for the likes of DB, Ani, Dimitry (Deee LIte) and Moby to name a few. Less than a year later he became a prominent figure at Limelight during the Disco 2000 / Future Shock era filling a regular spot in the Chapel alongside DJ Reese for the groundbreaking Smack party on Teusdays and was the first DJ to rinse Limelight's main room with Jungle records. When Mixed Bag launched Konkrete Jungle he was on the bill for the first parties spinning for Jamalski at Coney Island High, S.O.B.'s and Wetlands. Shortly there-after He took his musical ventures to Atlanta, Georgia and in 1994 partnered with well known Gainsville DJ Debbie D to open Atlanta's first all electronic underground record store, Urban Tribe's DJ Booth in Little 5 Points. After the 1996 Olympics he once again continued his musical movement to the historic city of New Orleans, Louisiana. There he teamed up with Seekwhensir to form The Justice League. Together they took New Orleans by storm organizing the first all Jungle parties and hosting the first Jungle rooms at the city's rave events. Jean-Paul, as Spinmaster MInd, was the first to turn State Palace Theater out with his intense, flawless Jungle sets. In late 1997 Jean-Paul returned to New York City and returned to his roots as a Hip Hop DJ and producer. In 1998 he became a familiar, well known face in downtown Brooklyn's community as the pro-audio guy at Proline Electronics. He attended to the needs of Erykah Badu, Lord Jamar, Sugar Bang, Keith David and Mark Bell of The Ramones to name a few. When he met DJ Vital (12" Assassins) it was a match made in heaven. Together they have turned dancefloors all over the tri-state area upside-down with there eclectic blend of mainstream hits, reggae, house and old school. Jean-Paul was dubbed DJ White Owl by members of Junior Mafia which could have been attributed to his large framed glasses, weed habit and being the only white person in the studio at that time. Under his new alias he produced, directed and often hosted the very popular on-line Hip Hop radio show Blessed Sessions. In 2004 Jean-Paul moved his operations to Havana, Cuba to join forces with top Latin Hip Hop group Doble Filo. After a 7 month stint in Cuba he returned to NY and began his career as a digital film maker. Most recently he is partners with B Simple Studio and The Brooklyn Label writing, producing and recording music slated for a string of single releases starting in January 2009. You can hear Jean-Paul as Spinmaster Mind mixing Jungle and House on his weekly pod casts Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
