Isaiah 43:2 When you go through deep waters and great trouble, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown! When you walk through the fires of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. (NLT}
The FireEscape Coffeehouse began as an idea within a church youth group, that included youth from different denominations. These high school and college age youth desired a safe place to socialize, drink cappuccino, hang with their friends and bring in Christian bands for entertainment and evangelization. These young people did all the planning, found a building that would meet their needs and advertised their idea to supportive parents, adults and community. They borrowed trucks to pick up donated furniture, coffeemakers, scrap carpets, and other everyday items. They organized fundraisers, painted faces at football games, baked and sold cookies and muffins, xeroxed and distributed fliers to get the word out about the new Coffeehouse. They finally found a building that was donated for temporary use, cleaned, strung Christmas lights, tie-dyed sheets to cover unpainted walls, hung pictures, built a stage from railroad ties and opened the doors in July 1998 with it’s first concert with Nashville-based Christian rock group, “Polarboyâ€. The ministry has grown over the past several years and has moved into our own 20,000 sq. foot building on Main Street that has an awesome concert room, an apartment for bands to stay and our own fm radio station, KFEX 93.1, FireEscape Radio. The FireEscape is not affiliated with any specific church denomination, and is goverened by directors and a appointed board of men and women from many christian denominations. The FireEscape Coffeehouse Youth Ministry has been granted 501(c)3 non-profit organization, tax deductible. We are open on Friday and Saturday nights for high school and college age youth. We host youth events, concerts, praise and worship nights.
MISSION STATEMENT
Our mission at the Coffeehouse is two-fold: to minister and strengthen young adults who have already made a commitment to Jesus Christ and to serve, and positively impact the non-Christian kids. We accomplish this through relationships, interaction, entertainment and everyday conversations. Our motto is “Preach the Gospel everyday; if necesssary- use words.†(Quote from St. Francis of Assisi) It is our intention that everyone who comes into the Coffeehouse know that we love and serve Jesus Christ. There are so many issues that face our young people today and the FireEscape has been blessed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to provide counsel and a biblical view for decisions and life lessons.
