About Me
Karolina Salas was born in Costa Rica, when she was a child she started by singing with her Dad, her first introduction to the magical adventure of music. She remembers telling her Dad once around the age of 9: "I want to study Chemistry ", that same year as a Christmas present he bought her that chemistry set, but when he handed it to her he exclaimed: "Karol, You are an Artist not a Scientistâ€. Great words that made a huge influence in her life, this was the turning point for Karolina.
She studied at the Conservatory Castella in Costa Rica, in there she study piano, flute, opera and oil and pastel painting, where she left before graduating. She finished her education in the Public school but she couldnt stop singing nor playing. Mean while she she kept with private tutoring on piano, guitar and voice lessons.
She was introduce to the harp in the year 1999, where she felt in love with it as soon as she saw Karin Lyle (her former tutor) playing it. She has always said that she was lucky enough to be able to study with her.
Karolina has a great love for all Music, especially Celtic, Trova, Spanish and Classical music. Knowing that Celtic music is not my background but she believes there is a mystery in this music that intrigues her and makes her love it even more. Trova is what you probably know as new song music, its poetry in music, description of feelings and opinions in words, it makes this type of music unique some great trovadoures are Silvio Rodriguez, Pablo Milanes, Mercedes Sossa, Facundo Cabral, Joaquin Sabina, Pedro Guerra, Alejandro Fioli.If you have never heard trova give it a try you might end up falling in love with, she sure did.
Spanish music has its own world, its own beauty and flavor; it is not only how you play it but how you can get listeners to also enjoy it. Spanish is a very romantic language, there are so many ways to say many things in Spanish but when you combine that with some music everything changes to ways that are not explicable.
Classical music to Karolina is not the pioneer of music but there is so much this type of music can say, it has a history that is hiding between the lines, the notes, the accidentals, the keys, so much to discover.
Karolina resided in North Carolina where she performed for several public and private organizations including churches and private parties, and she has donated many hours of volunteer work for non profit organizations. and play for great authorities for several religious Organizations. She also tutored foster children in the harp and guitar.
she also has performed several times with talented musicians and for Well known european and costa rican choreographers back in her mother land "Costa Rica". And was giving the opportunity to play at Gloria Estefan's house for her charity event on feb/07.
Karolina currently resides in South Florida where she tutors, teaches music appreciation for children starting as infants, provides music therapy for seniors and ill patients. Also performs the harp in public and private events which she gets hire by contracts.
