Orbits

Orbits quintet is a Latin Jazz/Experimental group native of Puerto Rico. The group was formed on January 7,2006. The main goal of this project was to create a composition workshop. A workshop with no rules, and no limits. A place to be ourselves as young musicians with a lot to say. A place with no creative limitation. A place where inspiration comes from the love and the true power of music. The idea of making this workshop was inspired by musical masters such as Freddie Hubbard, John Coltrane, The Cuban group Irakere, David Sanchez, Woody Shaw, Miguel Zenon, Dave Douglas, among many others. One of our biggest inspiration is the Puertorican Composer/Jazz artist Miguel Zenon. Orbits Quintet is a mixture of genres. These genres are: Traditional Jazz, Experimental jazz, Rumba, Salsa, Danza, Bolero, Zongo, Nanigo, multi meter, European classical music, Bomba, Plena, Indian chants, among many others. The idea was to combine native folklore with our changing environment. All of Orbits Quintet compositions are original. In a short amount of time Orbits has performed in numerous folkloric activities. Orbits has performed with the great jazz legend Eddie Gomez. On September 25,2006 Orbits Quintet recorded there first album (12-6-5). The last song of this CD features Grammy nominated artist Paoli Mejias. 12-6-5(name of the recording) has been a very successful CD. The music of this production is currently being played in various radio stations around the world.Orbits is now proud to present our newest production Desahogo. Thanks to a scholarship given by the Banff Centre Orbits Quintet recorded there second album in Alberta, Canada on May, 2008. This product is already available.
