I turned the ignition over and pumped the gas in my 1986 Volkswagen Jetta GTI. The loud exhaust made me feel like a race car driver. I knew I could drive safely because I saw everyone else do it all the time. I drove very carelessly and made sure I stayed above the speed limit. The RPM's bounded over red line as I flew around corners at top speed. The only car on the old country Wishkah road was mine. So, every straight stretch, I had to see my top speed. The adrenaline was mixing with the alcohol, which is a deadly combination. The longest straight stretch I peaked at 85 MPH. The next corner was very sharp, but I pulled through with a powerslide. Unexpectedly, there was another corner after that, the side of the road was gravel, and my tires weren't responding. As I hit the fence with the side of my car, I hit a turn sign with the front, which shattered my windshield. I slammed on the breaks clinching the stirring wheel as tight as I could. Missing a telephone pole by inches, I cruised off a ten foot cliff and hit a tree, stopping me from 50 feet of more steep hillside. I jumped out of the car and climbed up the hill. My ear hot to the touch, was covered in blood. In shock, I started running toward my friends house 2.8 miles away. Half an hour later, cold, exhausted, and in shock, I arrived at Jaime's house with my shoulder covered in blood from the slash on my ear. I knocked on my friend jaime's window, and when she took one look at me she said in a scared voice, "Oh my god Mikey, what happened?" It was two o'clock in the morning, her hair was in a tangle and her eyes were open with a depressing gaze. With a pale face, she knew my pain. I spoke, gasping for a breath between every word, "I got in a car wreck, my car is in a ditch a bit past the boat launch." The moral of the story is don't drive drunk because your not as lucky as me; I'm pretty much invincible! yee-haw! Just kidding, be smart.Reading around your buddies is a NO NO!!!
