About Me

Hi! I come from Greece but I currently live and work in Cardiff, Wales, U.K. I got a little bit tired of Greece (!)so I thought...why not?...Lets live somewhere else!
I fell in love with Wales when I was a Fine Art student in Aberystwyth, a small but nice place and I decided to stay...in a bigger city this time, Cardiff!
I had been teaching art for a while but I felt it was keeping me away from my personal art work so after a long break I think it is time to go back to painting. I work at the King's Road Artists' Studio when I have free time from my job! Two of the most recent exhibitions that I took part in: 2007, “Save Our Studio!” King’s Road Artists, The King’s Road Studio Art-Fair / Group Exhibition Cardiff, Wales, U.K.; 2006, “Where We’re @”, King’s Road Artists, Tactile Bosch Artspace, Group Exhibition, Cardiff, Wales, U.K
About my work…
I see and try to recreate the human figure as a condition, an existence… a form, deprived of any means or values, space or time…I mainly work from memory, I sometimes use a model but I soon start to work with images and forms that take shape in my mind. I try to create these images in such a way that they give the sense that the forms, the lines, the textures, will only be there for an instant but they will change as soon as you turn your eyes on them again. There is nothinf to identify the figures. I just try to recreate what I feel. Most of them live in vague, unknown environments, places that do not really exist, yet, they feel so familiar as if I have seen them before. Perhaps my work is an attempt and/or a need to escape from reality and put oneself in a place where no one can find you, where you can be safe and undisturbed, an alternate reality where mind, memories and feelings work best.
‘The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity’. Alberto Giacometti
Another subject I am also interested in is landscapes which is my latest project. Most of the landscapes are small in scale and they are fragments of what I see around me. Again these places seem to be incapable of being real. They have been painted from memory after all and the use of photographs or other visual material is limited. The landscapes do become real when I paint what I feel instead of what I see.
My work is about feelings…texture…forms…impressions…distortion. I am trying to create an image that does not necessarily tell a story. The story waits to be build up by the viewer who is free to make his/her own interpretations.
Here is an example of my past and recent work! Hope to have more soon!
