WELCOME TO LINCOLN!!

About Me

Hello there! Welcome to my myspace page about the lovely town of Lincoln, Illinois, also known as...ME! Do not be fooled by my age. I am actually 151 years old, and will be turning 152 very soon! That is right, I was founded on that great 27th day of August in the year 1853. That was the day that Abraham Lincoln breathed life into my soul. I was a home to Honest Abe for many years. In fact, he christened me with a watermelon, declaring my name Lincoln. Oh, that handsome Abe. Some days I miss him so. He was quite the railsplitter between practicing law and raising his family.
I am a very historical town. Did you know that I am the only town that was named after Abraham Lincoln before he was famous? There are many sites you can visit here, such as the Postville Courthouse where Abe practiced law, the site of Stephen Douglas' speech where Abe was in the audience, and even the place where I was christened! While you are in Lincoln, you should also drive on "The Mother Road," also known as Old Rt. 66. It was the famous road that paved the trek from Chicago to Los Angeles.
My population is close to 15,000 people. Though most of my population is white, I also am home to Hispanics and Latinos, Blacks and African Americans, Asians, and there are even two people that fit into the "Other" category! I am also a very educational town. If you look at my schools, you will see that they are very abundant. I am also political. I am in the center of Logan County, and being the biggest town of the county, hold the county seat. You can visit my courthouse, the Logan County Courthouse, on the downtown square. While you are there, you should also visit the shops, eateries, and even the movie theatre! I am also the home of the Logan County Fair. It is the highest class county fair that you will ever find this side of the Pacific Ocean.
Do you know about my 8 wonders? I hope you can name them! You should go on an adventure to find them!
