Vinod Prasanna- Biography
Bansuri maestro, Vinod Prasanna, truly shines as an outstanding performer of Indian music. Whether it's performing as a soloist of Indian classical music or fusing with folk, Arabic and other world music forms, Vinod's performance is mesmerizing. His technical brilliance and sensitivity combine to deliver a passionate and soulful performance.
Vinod hails from the ancient city of Varanasi, India where he was born into the famous Prasanna family, who have continued a rich tradition of bansuri and shenai playing for more than two and a half centuries. Through years of study with his grandfather Pandit Vishnu Prasanna and his uncle Pandit Rajendra Prasanna, Vinod has inherited the musical treasure of his ancestors.
As well as performing throughout his homeland, India, Vinod has performed for international audiences. He was featured in the French TV documentary “Odysseyâ€. In 2006 The Yamaha Music Company in Japan hosted Vinod. In 2007 The International Art School, Munich, Germany hosted Vinod and Sri Pankaj Kumar (tabla). Vinod’s talent and dedication to the flute were rewarded in 2006, when the Sahara All-India flute competition named him their winner.
More recently, Vinod has been performing throughout Australia. As a performer of Bansuri in Australia, Vinod is unrivalled. He currently resides in Melbourne where he performs, teaches, records and captivates audiences with his magical flute. Vinod regularly joins musical forces with inspiring tabla player, Glen Kniebeiss. Vinod and Glen are two virtuoso musicians with a shared love of Indian music. From the sublimely meditative to cascading unison passages, their performance will journey you from the ancient to the contemporary, leaving you spellbound! Together, Vinod and Glen have performed many concerts in Australia, including the†Music for Meditation†concert at the BMW Edge- Federation Square, “Summer concert series†- Fairfield Amphitheatre, the Augustine Centre, the Boite, and the Nataraj Cultural Centre. Vinod and Glen delighted festival audiences at the recent Bellingen Global Carnival. The duo also received a standing ovation for their performance at the esteemed Banaras Hindu University, in Varanasi, India.

Influences
Vinod's late grandfather, Pandit Vishnu Prasanna, introduced him to the art of flute (bansuri) playing. In more recent years, Vinod's uncle and acclaimed musician Pandit Rajendra Prasanna has taught and inspired his playing. Vinod's vocal style of performance on Bansuri has been inspired by vocal masters Pandit Pashupatinath and Pandit Chanulal Mishra.
When in India, Vinod performs and teaches in his home-city of Varanasi,aand has performed throughout India in Delhi (including Folkdance Festival), Himachal, Mirjapur and Bihar. He has also played music in religious programs, including Bhagavad Gita recitals and Sri Hare Krishna Mission ceremonies and Vinod has performed throughout Nepal, France, Japan, Germany and now, Australia.
Vinod's style takes the listener on a musical and spiritual journey, and on listening to his emotive Ragas audiences are often deeply moved by his authenticity and the stirring beauty of such music.
