In mid-summer of 2003 a band by the name of “Fallacy†decided to call it quits after 6 years of playing together. Fallacy was a permanent mark on the NY/NJ local hard music scene. All members went on their own ways persuing their own personal careers in various non-musical fields. Fast-forward to autumn of 2006. Original “Fallacy†members Don Tretola, Justin Hall and Jim Hall were contemplating reforming the band again. During the 3 year hiatus, many influences and personal life experiences were taking the musical direction to a new level and different from the sound and feel of what “Fallacy†was. During the break between “Fallacy†and now, Don Tretola expanded his vocal range and melody technique and brought a new bone-crushing scream into the mix, further bringing a new direction to the vocals and lyrical compositions from previous years. Justin Hall steered away from performing or writing in the music scene after Fallacy’s demise and persued his own career. Even though he was not writing, Justin continued to listen to the new breed of hard music that was emerging. Bands like Shadows Fall, God Forbid and Unearth brought in some harder more intricate guitar influence from what he was previously incorporating into his and also his brother Jim’s Music. Jim added more double bass and also mixed in a lot of his own vibe. After seeing all these changes within themselves and their music Don, Justin and Jim knew it couldn’t be the same. The decision was made to embark on a new project, “Shotgun Methodâ€. A new band with a new heavy sound coming at you like a blast from the weapon itself. Due to the new complex guitar harmonies and arrangements another guitarist was essential. Enter Justin Kubitz. Justin Kubitz not only brings his own style of guitar influenced by more diverse artists from the extreme of Mike Patton and his many experimental bands to more chart friendly rock like Incubus and The Used. This sound mixed with Justin Hall’s odd open-string tuning creates a perfect blend of sound and is the foundation of Shotgun Method. After the addition of Justin Kubitz, there was still something missing. They needed a bassist, but it couldn’t be just anyone. Christine “JD†Smerecki was the perfect choice. A finger-style female bassist with hard undergound metal influences from such bands as: Acid Bath, Suffocation, Hypocracy, and Napalm Death. She was brought up watching and learning bass technique from her father. After her fathers passing, JD wanted to continue his talent within herself. In January of 2007, all the pieces to this new adventure fell into place and song writing began with explosive songs like “The Cleansing†to the hard-hitting epic tune “World is Waiting.†These songs together received over 3,000 plays within the first week of posting on Shotgun Method’s Myspace page (http://www.myspace.com/shotgunmethod) and received the attention of many within the business. Being a new band, the songwriting continues and will contribute to the bands first full-length effort which should come together later in 2007.
