Myspace LayoutsHello! Tansi! Hau Kola!My name is April Eve, social activist and founder of the Edmonton Stolen Sisters Awareness Walk. Welcome to our Myspace page.The SSAW (Stolen Sisters Awareness Walk) was created to raise AWARENESS and to HONOR missing and murdered Aboriginal women worldwide. We focus on Aboriginal women because of the high rates of racially motivated violence committed against Aboriginal women. For too long, the basic human rights of Aboriginal women have been largely ignorned by North American, Mexican, Australian and South American soceity.Research shows us that in Canada, for the last 20 years approximately 500 of Aboriginal women (First Nations, Non Status, Inuit and Metis) have been murdered or have gone missing. Most of these cases remain unsolved. Aboriginal women account for less than 2.7% of the entire Canadian population. We find this incredibly disturbing!We hope to encourage ALL communities to support and organize their own Stolen Sisters Awareness Walk. We MUST demand justice and the protection of those still at risk. We MUST educate our youth on what dangers to look out for and how to protect themselves and others around them.We want the violence to stop and for the missing to be found!
