I was born on July 18th, 1982 in Jamshedpur, a small town in northeast India. Both my parents are physicians and my father served in the Indian Army Medical Corps., so throughout my childhood I moved quite frequently.

It was my parents that secretly sent photographs of myself to Femina Miss India pageant, thus beginning my modeling and pageantry career.

In 2000, I had the great honor and privilege of winning Miss World and representing the Indian culture. From there, I decided to pursue a career in film, working with some of the best directors in Bollywood today. I have appeared in over 20 films and have been generously awarded by Filmfare and Stardust.

Working with Nikhil Advani on Salaam-E-Ishq was a great experience and the story is one that will make you laugh as well as cry. I encourage anyone that believes in the power of love to see this film.

I am also working on several upcoming films: Bekassor, Big Brother, God Tussi Great Ho, Kurbani and Chamki Chameli. I prefer to keep myself occupied with projects that will creatively challenge me as an actress. Most of all, I enjoy the work and entertaining my fans.
