How I got here... brought up on Led Zeppelin, The Cream and Hendrix.. as a kid, the recorder and piano lessons just didn’t do it for me; especially having 2 accomplished Jazz drummers as my great-Grandfather and great Uncle.
I started playing Drum Kit at 11 and later went on to study Classical Percussion and 1930's/40's Big Band.
I got into the BRIT school for Performing Arts (London, UK) at 14, and also began to learn Afro-Cuban percussion with Jorge Santo and Enrique Pla from Havana's premier band 'IREKERE'.
Later, I was in the running for the UK's 'Young Percussionist of the Year Awards' at 17 - but in those days I was too young to compete fully :0(
I then went to Paul McCartneys Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) and did a BA Hons degree in Music. I also went to Cuba and carried on my studies with Afro-Cuban music & history; and toured Europe with a 15 piece show band.
When I left LIPA, I started work as a Percussionist for several different Pop/Dance acts and also sessioning for SONY UK.
Then, being the daughter of a Bellydancer I decided to look more closely at the rhythms I’d learnt to dance to as a kid. I went to study with world renowned Egyptian percussionist HOSSAM RAMZY (Peter Gabriel, Page and Plant); later to earn the priviledge of playing and working for him. I now also work for Miles Copeland and his Bellydance Superstars!
These days I play all kinds of weird and wonderful Percussion & Drum Kit for talented people...

Cybelle to cymbal; Celts, woad and war drums

I recently discovered several things that I believe are pretty significant to female percussionists. One of these things is that the word "cymbal" comes from Cybelle. A tempestuous Goddess known throu...
