Johnny Prophylactic & The Ovulators

About Me

"From Youth to Young Manhood..."It was six long years ago that I first say Johnny Prophylactic in his then incarnation called, Legacy of Man. I remember very specific things from that night: it was rainy and cold, but inside the house people were mesmerized by a young kid sitting on a wooden stool, playing a guitar. The songs were personal, heartfelt and belt out with more emotion than that scrawny kid's frame seemed possible to hold. And now, six years later- that same passion is still there. Johnny Prophylactic possess that rare breed of natural talent, hypnotic stage presence and bravado, but the passing years have built that once thin-boned youth into a man. Gone is the Bright-Eyes copycat voice, and in its place is the unique sound of someone who through trial and tribulation has found Their Voice. Gone are the rhymes and riddles of youthful relationships and cheap, boozy memories. Johnny P. is a grown-up, and his songs reflect the complexities of growing older: broken hearts, bad mistakes, scars of old, and hope for the future. My only hope is that Johnny P. and his changing line-up of ovulators continues. The music is moving, the lyrics are complex and interesting, and Johhny P. is truly a sight to see. -Kelley
