2 of the most respected and established emcees in the Iranian American community have come together to form BASIC POETRY. Valley raised BASE ONE BASIC and ORANGE COUNTY raised APOETNOMADALI, sealed their fates when they met 1 and 1/2 years ago at Mehragan each promoting their individual cd's. The two formed a bond and a friendship that transfered into their music and decided to embrace the culture that's given them so much of their warmth, their love, their satire, and their universal outlook. While both artists keep their independant ventures and aspirations in the world of hip hop and entertainment separate, their union forms nothing short of a political, social, and cultural commentary on the sub culture that is the Iranian American.1979. This time it's the album and not the year that resonates so profoundly in all of our heads as the year that marked the change for many a life of a young Iranian, or immigrant family. Justly titled, the album takes you on 12 track binge that as the two artists would describe "just scratches the surface" of what they have in store for the community.The album comes with it's own story of independant hustle meeting chance, when the publisher of this magazine took an interest in the artists message and saw it as a chance to the present the community with something so relavent, yet original. Literally, changing the original format of this issue, Behzad Tabatai, told the artists if they could pull together 10,000 copies of their first release, he would find a way to include their rich debut album inside this edition of Namak. Pushing and exhausting every resource they had, the two artists showed up on Behzad's doorstep one night before the magazine was due for submittal, and sure enough, he kept his side of the agreement.
