when you grow up, you realize that you can't move both forward and backwards. you accept the fact that to open a door, you must close one. at the same time, you cherish the memories you've had. however, you realize that they're memories, filed in a different section of your life which you cannot return to. when you grow up, you realize the people who are important to you and hold them close. you accept the loss of friends and the gain of friends. you cut off the excess that you believe weighs you down because a friend is meant to elevate and not suppress. when you grow up, you accept what you excel at and what you cannot excel at. you realize that there will always be at least one person in this world who has more of something or is better in something than you. you accept this and work hard either way. when you grow up, you learn not to put up a front. when actions, political views, cultures, and even religious beliefs were once shaped by your friends, you now embrace what you, yourself, believe in. though there will always be others who clash with you, you hold to your views and acquire a respect for yourself for doing so. i have grown up.
