Underground Forums Resonant as we know them today, arose from the ashes of a band called Ditch about 3 years ago in late 2002. Ditch had been formed way back in 95 by Gerry Keane, Ian Power and Paul Kiely. After a few line up changes Graham Welsh came in to replace Ray Whelan on bass and Macker came in to replace Paul Kiely on drums. Ian would eventually leave and be replaced by Brian Callinan on lead guitar and shortly after the band decided a rhythm guitarist was needed to complete the sound and along came John Mouire.Unfortunately Gerry decided to leave just as they band started gigging again and in early 04 so they came to a standstill. For a while it seamed touch and go but Brian, John, Graham and Macker never lost faith or sight of what they had come together to create. An unexpected bonus of Gerrys departure was the new direction the music began to take. As there was no vocals for several months, the music had to be fuller to keep it interesting all the way through without a singer filling in over verses etc. The end result was a fatter, heavier, fuller sound that the band reckon they wouldnt of reached before simply because they had never really saw the need.As a result of the new line up, new style and new sound they decided a name change was needed as they felt to put all the new material under the Ditch banner was unfair. After months of arguing Resonant was decided upon over other contenders such as Draconian and Embroil to name but a few. This was all well and good but despite an arsenal of all new tunes they still struggled to find a singer who they thought done justice to the music. After several auditions, some good, some.not so good, Val Kearny of Downfall, a Waterford based metal band offered his services for a few gigs just to get the new material known and get the band back out into the public eye. After three fantastic gigs everyone came to realise they probably had the new singer and not long after it was official, Val was the fifth member and was to become the new front man for Resonant.April 2005 sees the band on top form about to go into the studio to record their first demo as Resonant, eagerly awaited and long over due say some although while Resonant agree in some respects, they feel the calibre of songs wasnt what it is today this time last year so are happy to say now is the time. All words, images and music © Resonant-Metal.com 2006
