About Me
Well… About me huh!... Um, can I lie?... No?... Seriously then. Ok well this “My Space†site is primarily to keep an on line dairy/record of my 5 month trip to Sweden (or of Sweden, as I am already here).Bit of background – Well my name is Mike, Hey to all!... and my home is in a little old place called Launceston, Tasmania. I am a third year nursing student at the University of Tasmania. I am bit of late bloomer in terms of going to uni… as my profile suggests I am 30 years of age, so I entered uni as a mature aged student. On reflection, I am glad I left it so late, maturity thing and all I just don’t think I would have had the commitment to complete the course. Why nursing, you may ask?... well I am glad you did. Nursing is a career choice I have always wanted to choose, I actually did a work experience placement at a local hospital in grade 12 (all those years ago, I remember it as I was the only fella in a room of 19 people, Lucky me). I find people fascinating, and love meeting people and making new friends, so what away to do it, being a nurse that is. It is such an empowering career, in my limited experience you get the privilege to see the best of the human spirit i.e. a persons will to recover, to live, to love and survive, there are many more of course. I have had 2 jobs since leaving year 12. The first being a Storeman (or should I say store person) of which I worked for 5 years. The second, being a sales representative, which I also worked at for 5 years. Both of which were not overly satisfying so when the opportunity came to apply for uni, I did. So here we are.So we come to me being in Sweden… well as part of my third year of study, I had the opportunity to apply to study one semester at the Malmo University in Sweden, so believe it or not I was accepted. The course is an accredited course form the University of Tasmania and the subjects here run parallel to the Swedish curriculum with one difference… its in English?. The course also encourages Swedish students to apply for a different experience in there own country. We have 16 people in our course 5 Australians (3 from Latrobe University in Victoria and 2 from Tasmania, myself and Catherine) and 11 Swedish students. Catherine and I arrived here on the 13th of January, 2007 and the course runs until early June. So, as mentioned I hope to keep all up to date via a blog about my adventures here in Sweden.
