ELjazzER

About Me

The band's origin lies in summer 2002 when Andrzej Wasniewski (pianist and arranger) and the vocalist Marek Marossanyi have initiaded a new musical project inspired by the music of Sefardian Jews. The text of the “Song of the Desert” became the motto of the group called ELiEZER.
ELiEZER, in his very first composition had a very acoustic,”primitive“ sounding: violine, sax, cello, darabuka, djembe, tabla, enriched with some keyboards sections
First concerts given in the south of Poland – Wroclaw city (Firlej Club, The Synagogue of the White Stork ) and in its surroundings (Zielona Gora, Klodzko) have met wih an enthusiastic approval of the public and of the music critics. Both highly appreciated the originality and the freshness of the the project.
Soon, many positive opinions appeared in the local press and the local radiostations kept on playing their very first recordings from the demo-album.
Despite some difficulties the group kept on playing and worked out a new project, based on a different musical conception. The traditional sounds have been progressively replaced by electronic and looping sections and from now on they became a "hebrew etno chillout drum & sax” band.
The moved audience followed the band through further performances, both in Poland (Synagogue of White Stork, Ostrow Wielkopolski , Jelenia Góra, Legnica, The Center for Creative Attitude of Wroclaw, Film Festival of Zwierzyniec) and in the Czech Republic (Kutna Hora, Mesto Hranice, Brno, Pardubice). After each concert the group returned for numerous encore eagerly required by the public. From now on he band has been assured that they really ”have whom to play for”.
Unfortunately they didn’t avoid some difficulties due to the different vues concerning the future musical direction of the group. Finally Marek decided to leave the band to initiate a new, more "classical" project. Following his departure, the group continued to evolve to its definite, easily - recognizable shape, close to the "ethno-jazz” current and changed its name to ELjazzER.
The actual group members are : Jiri Tibitanzl (Czech Republic) – sax & vocals, Andrzej Wasniewski (Poland) - pianos & arrangements, Grzegorz Grocholski (Poland) – trumpets, Jerzy Kwinta (Poland) – bass guitar, Sebastian Szczepanowski (Poland) – percussions & management.
From the very first live performances in the Czech Republic (Festivals of Jewish Culture in Kutna Hora, Svitavy, Brno) and in Poland ( Jazz Club “Rura” Wroclaw, tours on Dolny Slask Region, Kujawy Region, Kaszuby Region), the new project has been highly acclaimed by the public and their demo album has been recorded during one of the Czech concerts.
