About Me

ADDICT THE BOOK
10 years ago I wrote a book about my harrowing life story when I was addicted big time, for a long time, to drugs and drink. I’ve been genuinely clean now for many years and am so proud that the book has been an immense success in several countries including China, and has sold well over a million copies worldwide.
ADDICT THE MOVIE
The “Addict the movie” scenario has been ongoing for a few years now as some readers of this will already know. Plans to turn my book into a film were first talked about 8 years ago. I wanted to get the book published in America, so someone suggested I send it to Star Wars producer Gary Kurtz, because he was interested in new material. I did so by courier, but little did I know that he had already bought it from Waterstones and read it. When I found out, I asked him if he had enjoyed it. He said: 'No, I didn't enjoy it at all'. But he added: 'It's a horror story, and it needs to be told on film'."

More recently, Andy Serkis has also shown great interest, but things are still all “up in the air”.

Over the years I have been approached by other people but many wanted to take an option leaving me no artistic say whatsoever. Others claimed they knew famous people in the film business and so it went, on and on, often with my phone calls not being returned etc.
One very well known Director conned me and my colleague out of £20,000 for a script which wasn't bad....it was an insult, knocked together over a few days. It totally failed to capture the rawness of the book and depth of pain I went through during all those years of addiction.
As time passed by, the finance (several million) for actually producing the film turned out to be dodgy money, of which with my background and my years of addiction I would have no part of.
Famous names have been associated with me, but in the main even though some were genuine, the difference between what they were saying and reality was miles apart and I nearly called it a day.
While writing "Addict" I opened my heart and soul to the reader with no holes barred. Having sold so well for 10 years, it has to be a story worth telling in film, and I've now written the screenplay myself. Especially with it being a true story, I feel it would be a huge deterent and help save many people from the hell that comes from drug and alcohol abuse.
WHAT AM I GOING TO DO NOW?
In December 2006 I’d almost given up because of the reasons above. However, 30 years ago I was living in a shop doorway and if I can climb back from that, to quote the Beatles "with a little help from my friends" we won't just get by, we'll have a meaningful and successful film which WILL get distributed.
Cream floats to the surface and so does true talent. When the movie is a success we won't let our egos take over and get up our own arses like much of the established film brigade.
Fuck!..5 years ago I used to regularly have dinner with a chap I thought was my friend. He won a BAFTA and now hasn't got the time of day for me.
MY FEELINGS
I believe that there are some immensely talented people out there yearning to use their talents in the film game. With no relatives in the know, they work hard and remain determined because that’s the way they’re made. Those are the people I want.
If you're good enough and your talent shows through...let's have the break together and put bums on seats in cinemas.....while I can learn how to spell! This truly expresses my feelings over the whole matter.
The BBC made a documentary about me, Richard and Judy interviewed me on their show, and Chinese and German Television also made documentaries.
I just need a lot of help now from genuine people who have a strong belief in this project, along with the finance or necessary talent to finally bring “Addict” the movie to the big screen where it belongs.
THE SONG PLAYING
I recently heard a song "Money from the satisfied man" which you can hear playing. This song touches me greatly and is so good.
It was written by Carol Douglas and Paul Jeffery who you've probably never heard of...they just haven't had that lucky break. The song (which by hook or by crook will go in the film) has inspired me to march on, and that's why I've started this page.....I need some serious people round me and no bull-shitters.
