He then went on to become the major lyrical/music influence in the Idols earliest work circa Some Women's Prison and Suitcase, before the classic Burch/Currie/Nelson partnership (the gradleys) that would yield the 1998 debut album - Also Know As (Scalpel Phrases, John Glen in Space, Its Raining). For all the criticism the gradleys vocals receive, much like Ian Browns or Bob Dylans! The strength of meaning behind the lyrics produce a more poetic feel that lingers in everyone's head.Gaz then wrote all songs on the 2001 classic Going Gradley (Shrunken Shadow, A Rose for my Lady, Steep on a Chapel Hill, Saviour, She Shot Me Five times). Gaz usually points to Andy Curries excessiveness in the Going Gradley years as one of the main reasons for the group's downfall. However, his own lethargy in this period contributed just as much.Describing the music business as "the lowest common denominator, below rat poison in coke cans and barbed wire duvets, sickest people in the universe", he laid siege to his 4 track machine and put together simple songs for "himself". Now with the option of myspace, the gradleys and Gaz Burch's work can be heard throughout the world, together with some of the old classics mixed with newer songs.Gaz is currently working on a several other successful group projects.I hope you enjoy these classic 'cassette' moments, raw, unmarketed and beautiful.
