“It’s all about the musicâ€
Iridite was founded on this principle in the summer of 1999. Dedicated to producing quality electronic dance music, and acting as a platform for both established and new artists whose work was yet to be heard. This music would be unified not strictly by genre but by its quality, the styles ranging from down tempo to Detroit inspired Techno, Dub and House. Initially the aim was to bring together different artists on each release, each track being the strongest possible selection by that artist for the EP at that time, creating a fluid mix of high quality music without trying to hard to be overtly “eclecticâ€.
As time has passed we have been lucky to discover talented new artists who have never released music before and have also been acknowledged by many of Techno’s leading lights- Jason Brunton’s Track Title 2 and Rei Loci’s Deep Blue were licensed by Claude Young for his Berlin-Detroit Mix CD and Marco Bernardi’s Commuters’ Computers was licensed by DJ3000 for his True Colours Mix CD on Underground Resistance - we’ve been played and charted by Fabrice Lig, Laurent Garnier, DJ3000 (Submerge), Buzz Goree (Underground Resistance/Mixworks), Claude Young, Richard Fearless, Dan Curtin, Stefan Robbers, Titonton Duvante, Shawn Rudiman, Dan Bell, Anthony Shakir, Orlando Voorn, Arne Weinberg, Chris Duckenfield, Derrick May, Carl Craig, Joey Beltram, Mark Broom, DJ Dex (Underground Resistance), James Ruskin and many others. The sheer breadth of styles covered by the DJ’s who are playing our music (there’s not that many labels who can say they get played by Chris Duckenfield AND James Ruskin!) shows that our multi-genre approach to our releases really works.
These are all producers whose work we have admired, who have helped to influence us in many ways through their music and attitude, and whose support inspires us to keep doing what we’re doing. Releases by Elijah, Marco Bernardi, Nieux, FAOjesus, Jamie Greer/Da Poke and Max Planck, have allowed us to tap further into the underground pool of talented new producers in our area, bringing them to the fore of an industry where breaking through is harder than ever before.
Since the label’s inception, both Jason and Rei Loci have achieved considerable success both in the live and recorded fields - Rei’s 2 EP’s on Seventh Sign and Headpsace were equally well received (Sureplayer Status in the UK’s DJ Mag) and Jason’s output on Laws Of Motion and Court Square have all helped the label’s message spread further. Last year's EP on downLow records (Stinkworkx, Convextion, Dan Curtin and more) from Texas was charted number one by many top DJs including Anthony Shakir and was an instant sell out.
This year, Iridite has been busy spreading its message through live and DJ performances in many cities in the UK (London, Liverpool, Leeds, Manchester, Edinburgh and, of course, Glasgow!), Dublin as well as Berlin (at the much respected Berghain/Panorama Bar and Tresor venues) and Dresden.
