About Me

Been playing music since I was about 8 or 9 years old and started the chanter/bagpipes. I did quite well but was swayed by the lure of playing in a non-folkie band in the 80's and took up bass guitar (bagpipes weren't cool in the 80's). Played Bass for a number of years with various bands till I went to college in 1996 and rediscovered my love of traditional music. At College I studied musical instrument making under master luthiers William Kelday & Paul Hyland and as wel as learning the trade it was a great opportunity to play music with other students from all musical spheres. A number of us formed a band playing a variety of bizarre country songs and slightly odd arrangements of folk tunes from Scotland and Ireland and even got a gig in Azerbaijan. On leaving College I returned home to the Isle of Skye to set up my instrument making business and play music with whoever will give me a gig! I have worked on Albums with Peatbog Faeries, Farqhuar MacDonald and Aidan McEoin and have recently done some work with Sandra MacBeth. I play regularly at the local session in Dunvegas and with "the Folk worlds answer to Spinal Tap" The Bramax as well as deputy guitar duties with the Peatbog Faeries. Recently been working on some electro stuff with producer, and rotund drum god, Iain Copeland. Currently playing Mandola, mandolin, bass, guitar, bodhran and kazoo. I should really get my pipes back out of their box......................................................... ...................................Oh, the mandolin in the background is one of my own creations. I also made Dave Simons' bass (from Stereoglo, check out their pics.) and many other instruments.
