Just like any riot, central Pennsylvania pop-punk band The Riot began with one man and one voice. Inspired by and nostalgic for the 90’s lowbrow punk scene, front man, guitarist and songwriter Ryan Riot began The Riot as a solo project in 2006. He quickly realized The Riot was bigger than one man and recruited a team as passionate about punk rock as he was. First he found guitar prodigy Jonny Fye working at a local downtown guitar store. Jonny’s raw punk ability, knowledge and ear was just the kind of edge The Riot needed to create a strong balance between pop and punk. Ryan didn’t have to look too far for the next member; brother and fellow The Caddies member Brad Henderson. Brad’s strong bass and harmonious back up vocals were the perfect fit for The Riot’s sound. Add Ryan Williams, the young and talented drummer from bands like Addison, The Riot was now complete. In the interest of keeping that true old school punk feeling, the band so far has been completely DIY. Every aspect of The Riot is handled in band; from booking shows to making t-shirts, The Riot does it all. Ryan Williams handles most of the computer work; maintaining the bands Myspace and keeping up with the fans. Ryan Riot is the consummate promoter and does most of the song writing. Brad is the silk screen guy and everyone pitches in to make sure whatever needs to be done gets done. With a sound perfect for fans of Bad Religion, Jimmy Eat World and Anberlin; The Riot started playing small local shows and due to their high energy performances and their ability to connect with the audience, they rapidly began building a loyal fan base. As a result, The Riot was quickly noticed by other local bands and has played with bands like Rosematter, Safari So Good, and Rookie of the Year and is a staple performer at the Championship. Using central Pennsylvania as a testing ground, The Riot released a self-titled EP in 2007 and did a small tour to support it. The Ep sold out the first two pressings and began playing on local radio stations and on Sirius satellite. In 2007, The Riot attracted the attention of Bodog and qualified to compete in the Bodog Battle of the Bands on FUSE. They then entered the Ernieball battle of the bands where fans voted on-line and won themselves a spot on the 2008 Warped Tour in Scranton Pennsylvania, sharing the stage with bands such as The Audition, Forever the Sickest Kids, The Scenic and Protest the Hero. They were also featured on a regional compilation sold on the 2008 Warped Tour. Now The Riot is spending time writing and perfecting their first album. They are currently in the studio recording a new 2 song demo and a six song EP to be released in early 2009. The Ep will be melodic and pop inspired with thoughtful, contemporary song writing that keeps the bands music edgy and catchy… just like punk rock should be.
