The Legendary Len

About Me

In the 1980s and 1990s, The Legendary Len’s EPs were much played by the late, great John Peel on his BBC Radio 1 programmes in the UK. How to describe the songs? Tuneful Indie guitar noise with observational, off-kilter lyrics? Maybe. Press reviews give a better impression: “The Legendary Len takes you on a journey through time and styles: from The Buzzcocks, through Billy Bragg and Morrissey to The Streets." - Time Out. “A strange and wonderful noise. Should be up there with Britain's eccentric geniuses along with the likes of Syd Barratt, Robin Hitchcock and John Cooper Clarke. A definite cult figure” – NME. "Len’s everyday observations are whimsical vignettes... set to beautifully ramshackle musical backdrops” - Q/Guitar Magazine. “He is the bard of the banal, finding poetry in the ordinary, like Alan Bennett with a 6-string” – Classic Rock. “His ‘Songs About Love, Dreams and Domestic Appliances’ album is a sharp, witty, tuneful wake-up call for the nation” – Daily Mirror. Well, nice of them to say so. Anyway, you've probably got the picture. By the way, in a different guise Len sang and played fiddle on The Wedding Present’s Ukrainian John Peel Sessions and is a founder member of world music/punk folk group The Ukrainians (see www.myspace.com/theukrainians ). He was also a member of British, Leeds-based '80s Indie combo The Sinister Cleaners (see www.myspace.com/thesinistercleaners ). To get a copy of Len's lovely 'Songs about Love, Dreams and Domestic Appliances' album, just send coins, unmarked banknotes, cheques or international money orders for 8 British Pounds (GBP)/10 Euros/15 US dollars (USD) to Aaz Records, 66 Victoria Road, Wargrave, Berkshire, RG10 8AE, ENGLAND. Go on. You're worth it.
