About Me

www.haldonfreeride.org
Although the name 'Haldon Freeride' would suggest that our involvement in the project is only the freeride side of things, this isn't strictly true. We work on all aspects of the project and regularly put work into improving and maintaining the cross country and the freeride trails.
It all comes down to the fact that we love building sweet trails, whether that be cutting through a new piece of singletrack, hauling rocks so we can armour a stream crossing or building a new piece of northshore. We like riding great trails as much as the next man, thats what drives us to do things the way we do. Quality over quantity.
We believe that taking the necessary time to carefully plan and construct a trail is invaluable. If the correct route, materials, techniques and workforce can all be brought together then the results can be fantastic. However this can fairly hard to achieve, but as a result we are learning all the time.
Through experimentation and research we have tried and tested many methods, and the most valuable thing it has taught us is that wherever possible it's often best to do things traditionally and as environmentally friendly as possible.Haldon offers something to all walks and abilities of cyclist with trails being graded from the more modest Family Cycle Trail & Adventure Cycle Trail, right up to red, black and double black runs for the more adrenaline inclined.
The Family Cycle Loop and Adventure trail are 100% complete, so if you fancy taking the kids out for a bit of a cruise through the forest then go right ahead. The trails are perfectly rideable in all conditions, so don’t let the usual Haldon weather patterns put you off.
The ‘Red’ and ‘Black routes are under a constant state of development so before you go out on the trails we ask you to take a look at our ‘News’ and ‘Info’ sections. This will give you all the latest information regarding trail closures/conditions, any forestry operations that will affect your ride and where you will need to take particular caution due to any trail building/maintenance that may be taking place.
The courses have been tailored to match these gradings for safety, so when we say it’s a double black run we mean it, you will require a level of skill outside of the ordinary to attempt riding it. All of the runs will have way markers colour coded for the different ability grades to make sure nobody can get lost.
We welcome people to come and ride with open arms, that’s why we're building it afterall, but please bear in mind that a lot of time and effort has gone into making the trails, and we urge people to not alter or adapt any of the trails in anyway. Any kind of ‘illegal building’ will result in a closure of the project and a whole heap of really annoyed local riders, so please, just don’t do it! If there is something you would like to see at Haldon then please get in touch and have a chat with one of us, were always open to ideas.
We hope to see you on the trail, so make sure to say hi or stop for a chat if you come across us in the woods, we’ll be the ones carrying spades and bits of timber, and making lots of chainsaw noise. Please be courteous to other riders, abide by the rules and regulations, but above all else, have fun!
I created my own profile using nUCLEArcENTURy.COM and you should too!

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

MEMBERSHIPYou might ask yourself, "Why do i want to become a member" and you would be quite right in doing so.

When we decided to make ourselves a 'proper' club we asked ourselves the same question. As a result, we have arranged various advantages to being a member. We are constantly working on adding more to the list, but for the time being here's what you get so far.

- A bunch of glossy Haldon Freeride stickers to stick where ever you like.

- 10% discount on purchases from Sidwell Cycles. This includes, Components, Servicing, and Apparel. (Not Bikes)

- Preferential rates on Haldon Freeride apparel. (When purchased direct)

- Half price annual parking permit for the Haldon Hub car park, making it £5 per year(Keeps your car safe while your out)

- 30% Discount on Shui and Vandal clothing via www.northshorefreeriders.com

- (Fairly) Regular newsletters, letting you know whats what.

The stuff we are working on ...

- Preferential rates on riding holidays to the French Alps

- And more to come . . . . .

Casting the freebies aside for a mo, the real thing you will be doing by becoming a member will be showing your immense support for the project. The day to day running costs of the project are always increasing, and so far we have been bearing the brunt of this ourselves.

But the time has come for everything to move to the next level which is why we are calling for support.

We have to have public liability insurance for us to be able to continue building, the running costs of the website are increasing, the stickers, hoodies, and tshirts all cost money. Not to mention actually sourcing and paying for the timber and materials used for the construction of the trails.

As you can see, your membership fee will be put to very good use, so dig deep people, make yourself a member and help us to keep building!
