Pianist/Composer/Producer from Zed (this translates as Copperbelt. Zambia). Blessed to be on the planet. Hope to work with some of my mentors as I pass through.Open to REMIX work, soundtracks and don't be shy to ask... I do listen!!!Okay let's see if I can say this real quick. I am Copperbelt through and through. Have played piano ever since I can remember but I'll never forget my first time to touch a grand piano. I was the new girl at high school and I spotted this baby in front of the orchestra pit. Had to play it. It wasn't locked so I went for it. Eyes closed I was playing my little heart out when I realized the hall was filling up... Headmistress turns up and says I can play it whenever I like in exchange for playing the Monday assemblies. The thing is. it hadn't been played since Louis Armstrong ran his precious hands over it on a visit to Zambia in the 50's!!!Got into organizing shows while still at school and stumbled into writing commercials afterwards. I pumped the money I made into taking music and new acts (mostly older than me) into the top theater and ran a Live at the Playhouse gig. My bright idea was to get the embassies to buy the tickets and donate them to peeps. Turns out all the diplomats figured it was the best place to be so they all turned up! Decided to do open air shows in Barclays Bank carpark instead. Barclays were cool about it as I had written for them and the best thing in the world is to be in Africa playing to thousands of people from all walks of life who were out for Saturday shopping and stumbled on to the bands I started up. My last gig in Zambia was headlining Power to the People at Independence stadium with over 100, 000 attending.Did a little globe trotting and was blessed to fall into random gigs like a piano bar in Mauritius had France's top jazz act playing. I was on vacation and it was my favorite place to go. I walk in and the manage pulls me aside and says the keyboard player had to go home as his son was in an accident. Lucky me gets to sit in on one heck of a session!!! I also spent time in Johannesburg and as my host was partners with Hugh Masekela i got to meet one of my mentors everyday. Received a lot of advice from one of our house guests who was there on a production stint. It was invaluable as he was also the youngest member of Kool and the Gang. You can't buy that kind of experience.Jamming away for the fun of it on a hotel piano and playing a variation of a song I love called Pata Pata, this woman walks in and sits and listens to me play then asks if I will play the same song at her set at another hotel. I turn up and only discover when she announces me that she wrote the song for Miriam Makeba. Shout out to Dorothy Masuka!I have had a lot of blessings/lucky accidents. Through it all I have had my sister "VJ" singing up front and my family constantly supporting us whether it was playing our local golf club or performing a song specially written for a UNICEF TV marathon.Lately, I've spent more time voluntarily helping young acts to get demos made or their heads straight as far as the bizness of music is concerned. I love supporting talent. Music composed for a new young Brit ended up with her winning best song at 2002 BBC Urban Choice Awards.I am now reconnecting to my soul and working on a Songwriter's Set that I hope will feature some of my mentors as well as some fresh new talent. I'm up here on my space to listen and learn and it is amazing how much talent there is. I pray that your stars shine brightly and you find what you're looking for. Moi. I'm just going to try to continually improve and have fun while I'm at it.Stay blessed.ps. I'll try and throw some more tracks up here for you to share.
