Messenger with a missionNeil Jones, a.k.a. Ras O’Neilly, born December 03, 1972 and hailing from Kingston, arrived on the music scene in 1991. He was known as Dr. Sweets, doing cover versions of various artistes in the R&B gene.However, during his journey through the music industry, his conscious awareness started developing to higher heights and he began to acquire an in-depth view of what was happening around him, and the direction in which his life was heading.Around the year 2000, during the turn of the century, he decided to alter his image, and about faced in a different direction; hence Dr. Sweets, “The Ladies Manâ€, was transformed into Ras O’Neilly, a messenger of reality, peace and love.His mission to restore unity amongst his fellow Jamaicans and to others around the world has two of his upcoming songs, “Crying for Peace “which the video is currently out. And “No More War†will expound.This however is not to say that Ras O’Neilly has deviated from the ladies, other upcoming songs, “Rasta Man Ready†(the video for this song is in the making) will bear testimony to that fact and will highlight that the Rasta man still has love for the ladies, or rather, that special lady in his mind.Ras O’Neilly’s aim is to be an icon in the Reggae music arena. Although the music industry has seemingly become very competitive, he doesn’t see himself as a competitor, but rather as a messenger with a mission to accomplish. “At times my soul cries out in agony when I see what is going on around me ,†he said. When ask about the effects that present happenings in our country have on him. The violent nature that his fellow Jamaicans have adapted has brought tears to his eyes many a days.His current singles “Crying For Peace " and “No More War†was inspired during one of these moments. He also did a combination with Kirk Davis (formerly known as Little Kirk), entitled “What Life Is Worth, produced by Shore Jam Records.Ras O’Neilly is currently being managed by Shore Jam Records but is also connected to other studios, such as Shocking Vibes, Mixing Lab and Anchor Studio.Listing Wayne Wonder, Kirk Davis (formerly Little Kirk), Singing Melody and the late Garnett Silk has his role models, Ras O’Neilly says that he sees then as excellent arties and singers. He discovers his talent at an early age whilst a student at the Lacovia High School in St. Elizabeth. He performed at school concerts and small community stage shows. He was encouraged by his peers and adults alike to get involved in the music industry.Although now living in Kingston he spent a lot of years in the city of the future; Portmore ,where he performed at various shows and functions, including the Miss Portmore Pageants. He got his first big break in 1994 at the internationally known stage show “stingâ€. This was realized with the much supported assistance of a very close friend known as Shelly-Ann, whom he also considered to be a mother figure to him. Ras O’Neilly’s latest appearance at a mega stage show was Moses “Beenie Man†Davis Summer Sizzle in 2006.Ras O’Neilly is the proud father of five lovely children, whose names are derived from his birth name ; Neil. They are Neilan, Moneil, Shaneil, Daniel and the lates addition Kaneil. These five treasured children are also a motivation to his driving desire to be a successful recording artist, as he is determined to provide only the best for them.When asked where he sees himself in five years, Ras O’Neilly said, “I see myself as an internationally known reggae artist, because the world is waiting to see and hear meâ€. Ras O’Neilly is entirely focused on his goal, and with his determination he will become one amongst the greats.
