Heather Michele Meyer

About Me

A native of Santa Barbara, California, lyric soprano Heather Michele Meyer has received critical acclaim for her “rich lyric soprano voice” and “riveting, poignant delivery”. Her opera roles include the Governess in The Turn of the Screw, the Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro and both Mimi and Musetta in La Bohème. Most recently, she was seen as Ellen Orford in One World Symphony’s production of Peter Grimes. As an active oratorio recitalist, she has had the privilege to perform Mozart’s Requiem with San Francisco Choral Artists, Brahm’s Requiem and Handel’s Messiah with West Marin Music Festival and Vivaldi’s Gloria with Voices of Music Sacra. Her consummate musicianship has made her very much in demand for lesser known works such as Vespro della Beata Vergine by Monteverdi, Laud to the Nativity by Respighi and Trois Leçons de Ténèbrae by Couperin. Ms. Meyer also made her New York debut at St. Bartholomew’s Summer Music Festival in a new work by composer James Buonemani entitled Missa Miamiensis. As a graduate student at San Francisco Conservatory of Music she performed extensively with the Conservatory’s New Music Ensemble, premiering works of both student and faculty composers. She continues to be an advocate of performing contemporary music, having recently completed a recital of living composers’ music on the Great Music Series at St Bartholomew’s. She can next be seen in two separate benefit evenings of Italian opera scenes at the NYC Bar Association & The Center and with Baltimore’s Opera Vivente as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni. In her spare time, she enjoys being a self-described “foodie” with an equal passion for wine and spends as much time in New York restaurants as she possibly can.

Procrastination with a clear head

I am procrastinating today, from my day job. I am getting music work done, which is nice for a change. I have decided that for now, the focus should be on my career. The boy is over and I no longer ha...

General musings

Well, my string of choral gigs and church (Holy Hell Week, etc) is over for a couple weeks. It's nice to be able to breathe and focus on my own work. More auditions this week - I'm still in the frustr...

More audition silliness

Well, at least the last one went well. Yet, I didn't get the part - par for the course. I am impatient and even though I know it will take time, I still get irritated if I didn't get the part. Normal?...

Auditions...argh!

Ah, the art of mastering auditioning. It's so fun! And you never really know what they're thinking. I did an audition yesterday that was good, but not great. Not my best. Yet the German they asked me ...

A note about Dove sono

In an effort to get some music up here, I have posted a very old recording of me from a local company in SF. Although I am proud of this recording, it is not necessarily representative of how I sound ...
