After freelancing for little money for twenty years for the New York Times, Washington Post, L.A. Times, Boston Globe, The Nation, Salon.com, Village Voice, People, Glamour, Cosmo, and Jane magazine, I finally broke into books! Hey it only took me 23 years to get a hardcover. I'm the author of "Secrets of a Fix-Up Fanatic." "Lighting Up," and "Five Men Who Broke My Heart", which was optioned for a movie by Paramount Pictures. I'm also the co-editor, with writer Ian Frazier, of a first person anthology about life on the streets called "Food for the Soul." My new book "Only As a Good As Your Word: Writing Lessons From My Favorite Literary Gurus" comes out this fall. It has so far ganered the lowest advance and the best advance blurbs of my life. (Is there a correlation?) I am a media whore who has appeared on The Today Show, Dateline, Good Day New York, E! Entertainment, and prime time documentaries on ABC and Oxygen. I live in Greenwich Village with my husband, a TV writer/producer who hates my first person books and is threatening to write a rebuttal called "The Bitch Beside Me." I teach journalism at NYU, The New School, and Mediabistro. [email protected] is my direct e-mail address.
