Rogier Telderman was born in Utrecht, The Netherlands, in 1982. He is a versatile pianist and active as accompanist and jazzpianist. He is inspired by pianists like Keith Jarrett and Brad Mehldau, the Scandinavian Nu-Jazz movement, and classical music written by Ravel and Bach. This broad mixture of styles is to be found in his own compositions, which he performs with his own trio and quartet. He was recently nominated for the Jacques de Leeuw Talent Award 2009.
In 2009 he will tour along the Dutch theatres with "Aarde", the new show of Evi de Jean. For this show, music was written by Randal Corsen, Fernando Lameirinhas and Bart Wolvenkamp. Together with fellow musician Donald Simoen, he organises a live jazz series in Stadscafé de Meesters in Tilburg since october 2008. This series is intended to offer young talented jazzmusicians in The Netherlands a new platform.
Besides these activities, Rogier teaches jazz piano (as a subsidiary subject) and accompanies various projects at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg. He also works as accompanist of the Codarts Conservatory in Rotterdam, and the Complete Vocal Technique program (by Catherine Sadolin) in The Netherlands.
Short biography - Rogier grew up in a musical family, where as his father is a gifted classical pianist, conductor and organ player. He began playing the piano at an early age. Despite his affection with music he started studying Industrial Engineering at the University of Eindhoven. During these years the urge to play grew - many thanks to his teacher Erik Vlasblom - and he first experienced (and fell in love with) improvised music. So after his Bachelor degree he started studing at the Fontys Conservatory in Tilburg. Here he took lessons from Randal Corsen, Willem Kuhne, Jeroen van Vliet and Rob van Bavel and classical music with Frans van der Tak. He also participated in masterclasses with a.o. Baptiste Trotignon, Jasper van 't Hof, Bert Joris, Simon Nabatov, and Antonio Faraò.
Together with singer/comedian Willemijn Smeets, Rogier made contributions to 4 shows, has been touring the Dutch theatres for four years, played at "Cabarestafette", "de Uitmarkt", "De Parade", and festival "Boulevard" (2006-2008). For the last four years, Rogier played and organised a series of concerts in the Chassé Theater (Breda, NL), called "Koffieconcerten". This series has offered him the chance to share the stage with many talented musicians (a.o. Tineke Ogink, Mirthe Bron, Bas Marée, Maartje Rikhof).
