About Me

Evan Neva (sometimes known as 'Nevaman') has been playing the piano since he was four. During his school years, along with developing his keyboard techniques, he started picking up other instruments, including guitar, bass, trumpet, harmonica, drums and percussion, and more recently, the flute. With over thirty original songs, and more being written all the time, Evan has played in many bands over the last fifteen years. Some of the more notable projects include: The Other Side, Shazaam, Farmhouse, Plaid Iguana Project, Everlasting Fresh, and most recently, Frenchbread, who are still rockin' out the Baltimore/Annapolis area. He has also sat in with many great musicians and bands as well, including: The Recipe, members of The Allmighty Senators and the Davidson Bros., Outta' Body Experience, and once backed up Bo Didley on stage in Virginia. More recently, he is working on several albums (soon to be released). Frenchbread is releasing their album spring 2009. By late spring 2009 Evan's 1st solo album will also be released (called Neva Mind). It's a compilation of instrumental music recorded over the last decade, digitally re-mastered with new tracks and layers added in. The other studio project currently under way is called HEADGROOVE, and is dedicated to a "full-band" version of Evan's original funk and dance music, with a core of keys, bass, and guitar, and some amazing artists filling in the other instruments, including former Jamiroquai drummer, Nick Van Gelder, and former Greyboy Allstars drummer, Zak Najor! (If your interested in checking out the Headgroove page, it's on the top 8 friends list below.) In his new solo project, Evan is taking the concept of Keller Williams, i.e. doing a full-sounding, live, one-man show using a loop-machine with only some drums pre-recorded, everything else is done live... but doing it with his own funk, jazz, dance, and rock music, and a few tasty covers. Evan will be playing a different set of instruments from Keller as well, focusing on the keyboards, but also including guitar, percussion, harmonica, flute, and trumpet. Also, you never know who might pop up on stage with him on any given night!

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: evanneva.com
Band Members: EVAN NEVA (a.k.a. Nevaman) -- Keyboards (includes drum kit and bass parts), guitar, percussion, trumpet, flute, harmonica, and vocals... all run through a loop machine, and all performed LIVE! The only thing pre-recorded are some of the drum tracks (which were all created and performed by Evan on the keyboard drums).
Influences: Earliest influences as a child were mostly piano oriented, including everything from classical piano to George Gershwin and Scott Joplin to Billy Joel and Elton John. Once in high school, got into classic rock... (Grateful Dead, The Doors, Pink Floyd, etc.) and with cross-over bands (such as Steely Dan, War, Santana, and The Funky Meters) became influenced by the funk, jazz, fusion, and Latin aspects of the music. Being infatuated with funk and jazz, particularly, led first to the Old School (including P-Funk, Earth Wind and Fire, Curtis Mayfield, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Brothers Johnson, Average White Band, James Brown, etc.) The new era of electronic and dance music brought the latest influences. Newest favorites include Jamiroquai, Brand New Heavies, Madeski-Martin&Wood, Karl Denson, Soul Live, Thievery Corporation, Erica Badu, Black-Eyed Peas, Galactic, etc. Also constantly rediscovering and re-rediscovering the jazz classics over the last decade.
Sounds Like: A blending of MM&W, Curtis Mayfield, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Karl Denson, and Kool & The Gang, w/ a splash of Jamiroquia, and an occasional journey into the R&B side of classic rock and jamband music
