About Me

Monthly DJ nights can get boring. So boring, in fact, that Joey Sweeney recently complained about it on Philebrity: "At the risk of sounding like a party pooper, everything there is to do this weekend is something you've already done like 500 times, first with wonderment and an open heart, but eventually, inevitably, utterly joylessly…the defining argument against most monthly DJ nights [is that they] tend to dish out the same shit each time."Sweeney can take comfort in the fact that at least one party promoter is listening, and attempting to change things. Keith Montgomery and Rich Arnold started Philapsychosis Productions to battle the limited shelf life of DJ nights. Their event is called RECOVERY, as in they are recovering the idea of a varied nightlife in Philly."There are a lot of great parties out there but all too often it is the same DJ lineup with the same drink special month after month," Montgomery said. "It can get boring rather quickly."It seems the pair is not blowing smoke, as Montgomery and Arnold come with precedent. Philapsychosis hosted "Take A Load Off," a party that brought 200 bangers to the RUBA club, introducing many to a spot relatively unknown to the masses. The party garnered write-ups from Philadelphia Weekly as well as numerous blog postings and, most importantly, street cred, which in the DJ game may as well be currency. But just how exciting can a DJ night actually be? "It is important for the DJ to keep the energy going and to make the right selections for songs," Montgomery said. "I also think a decent drink special is important."For future efforts, the boys hope they can offer a wide swath of Philadelphia's best DJ's as well as live bands to provide something for everyone. Arnold and Montgomery know what it takes. "A great party depends on several factors: The party itself, the performers, the venue, and the crowd. If you enjoy the club-party atmosphere, it's very easy to have a great time at any DJ night."But you’ll have to show up to see if they bring it.
