On April 13th, 2007, a stellar line-up of local musicians will perform at SOhO Music Club to celebrate the launch of a locally based organization called “Another Way Home.†The group’s simple mission is to promote the alternatives to drinking and driving in Santa Barbara.
“Another Way Home†was founded to honor the legacy and memory of Alex Baer, a UCSB student tragically killed last August in an alcohol related crash. The case garnered a significant amount of public interest when, despite pleas for leniency from Alex’s mother, the driver was sentenced to more than 5 years in state prison.
After his passing, several of Alex's friends realized that something needed to be done to combat the prevalent problem of drinking and driving in Santa Barbara. As a result of their inspiration, “Another Way Home†was born. What makes this organization unique is that instead of emphasizing an anti-drinking campaign, it is rooted in helping the community understand how easy it is to make better choices when they do drink, like taking taxis, utilizing designated drivers, Bill's Bus, etc.
The night will include music from Santa Barbara's favorite local artists including Spencer the Gardner (solo), Matthew McAvene, Gabe Lackner, Reid Spencer, and Instant Love Mix. Representatives of KHN Solutions, a company that manufactures breathalyzers, will administer free tests to all in attendance. Guests can expect discounted taxi ride vouchers and other related giveaways from local companies. Tickets are $15 and will help cover the event costs.
