NEGO GATO CAPOEIRA

About Me

I was born in Salvador Bahia, Brazil in the poor neighboorhood of Masaranduba. My house was built on stilts over the water and I learned my ginga crossing the briges to get home. My mother was a mae de santo (Mother of saints) so I grew up listening to the sounds of Candomble ceremonies in my home. My mother was a spirtual dancer, so i was dancing in her belly before i was born. I have been performing African Brazilian folkarts professionally since i was ten years old. This work has helped me to see the world, and was my road out of the life of poverty that still effects many of my brothers and sisters.I am proud of my Arican ancestry because it is the knowledge of this proud history that has made me who I am today. Capoeira is my life. Capoeira, my music, the rhythms and the dance are what I have to share. Through my work I want to teach all people to conjugate the verb "to love". I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
