Long hair, naturalness, ambition and charisma are attributes standing for Arwen. It is also characteristic for her that she differs from the norm now and then. Arwen is just not normal. This could already be seen in the kindergarten and is also still clearly to be seen today:
There are not many people talented in the arts who possess a driver's license for 40 ton trucks.
With the age of 6 she began her classical piano lessons, which she finished after 14 years with the beginning of the studies. But one instrument was not enough for her. She wanted to gain an insight in many different instruments. Thus with 15 years she began to take classical guitar lessons. With 18 years she practised in playing saxophone. Although piano playing had accompanied Arwen her whole life and she had also success (2001: 3. place at "Youth plays Music" in category VI), for her it was never worthy of consideration to concentrate only on this instrument. "Since I am 9 years old, I wanted to become nothing else than a singer."
As nobody knew about her dearest wish, since she neither spoke about it nor took any singing lessons, it was an even greater stroke of luck that her family advised her to participate in the casting of the "Amigos", a cover band which was looking for a singer. She did it and had success. The band decided in favour of Arwen. With 17 years she stood thus the first time on stage in front of hundreds of people and sang. Thus she began to gain experience on stage.
Even if her experience was not always positive, she has however never doubted her dream. On the contrary, the dream became concrete plans. So with 18 years she began to take singing lessons to lay the foundations of her future creative activity.
Another chance, or was it fate, happened in her life. When she did her Abitur, a school-friend told her about the conservatorium in Enschede at which she could study "Popular Music". It has always been her dream to become a singer, but studies in classical singing were not worthy of consideration for her. Since in Germany it was to date not possible to subscribe this course of study, it was clear that Arwen had to try to get a college place there. In the first attempt she failed. She was however not discouraged by this setback and tried it again in the following year. This ambition was worth the trouble. She was admitted to the study in music, subject area "Popular Music". Meanwhile Arwen is in the third year of education. At the pop academy, she is i.a. having lessons with Danny Sahulapa, the drummer of "Do" and "Big Black & Beautiful", and with Marlayne who appeared at the Eurovision Song Festival for the Netherlands, and presents on SBS 6 "De Hart van Nederland". Moreover she was already on the stage with Glenn Corneillen, the former keyboarder of "Do" and "Boris" (Dutch Superstar winner) and Rogier van Wegberg, who has got the price of the best bass player of the Netherlands.
Not only during the studies, but also besides her studies she is on stage with celebrities. Thus in May 2005 she was engaged as background singer and appeared with Maggie Reilly and Paul Young in the RTL Chartshow which is presented by Oliver Geißen. She was also engaged as background singer for Janette Biedermann. Unfortunately, it did not come to the appearance, since this one was cancelled shortly before by the management for internal reasons.
