Once upon a time, on the quaint island of Manhattan, there roamed a boy named dos-a. As with any native boy on the island, dos-a survived on a healthy diet of pizza from Joe’s, bagels from Ess-a, and mixtapes from DJ Clue . . . Illuminiti!!! (sorry had to do it). dos-a loved living on the island, but for some reason he felt something was missing. Visitors to his island told tales of far away lands where studio apartments were to be had for under $1500 a month and where pedestrians actually smiled at and greeted passersby.As a result, dos-a made it his mission to leave his island and see the world, but he faced a few problems:1. What skills besides natural charm and good humor did dos-a possess to survive in the outside world? And what about money? dos-a did not receive a large inheritance like some of his tight jean-wearing friends that visited the island from Williamsburg. dos-a’s most valuable possession was a piece of paper issued by the same school attended by the Olsen twins and the Dell dude. Surely that would not suffice.2. And to what land should dos-a set sail for? He heard so many stories of exciting places he could not even pronounce like Des Moines and Pittsburgh. So many choices . . .Worried about what lay ahead, dos-a spent many sleepless nights planning his daunting adventure. Fortunately for dos-a, one skill all island boys possessed was an impeccable taste in music. Visitors from the world over came to the island with records by artists diverse as Bob Marley to the Police to Kanye West. dos-a soaked this music up alongside local favorites like Jay-Z and the Ramones. dos-a excelled at mixing this diverse music and getting the locals to dance up a storm. Great music had universal appeal so dos-a felt confident he would be able to do the same in other locales.As for location, dos-a had only 2 requirements: little competition in the area of music mixing (or djing as it is known in the vernacular) and the ability to observe the female species in all their natural splendor.So off went dos-a to . . .
