Derek Blevins & Friends

Texas born Derek Blevins co-founded and played drums in the Boston-based Jon Butcher Axis. JBA signed with Polygram and recorded 4 LPs, one of which earned a Grammy nomination. JBA toured North America extensively backing up arena rockers Rush, Def Leppard, Scorpions, INXS and The J Geils Band. He became a Christian in the midst of it all and found difficulty reconciling his Christian walk with his career in the rock business. He responded by leaving the band upon the release of their fourth LP on Capitol.
Five years later he was chosen to lead a team of musicians for a new contemporary church service at Park Street Church in Boston, MA. From the kickoff in 1992 to present that service attracts 500-1000 college students every Sunday. Since marrying and moving to the Bay Area in 1998, Derek was called to another cornerstone church - First Presbyterian Church (Berkeley CA)- where he served as Director of The 505 service. Presently he is a stay-at-home dad and serves as Contemporary Worship Leader at Park Blvd. Presbyterian Church in Oakland, CA.
Beyond ministry, his passion is songwriting. Included here are a number of songs that are popular today in several east bay churches.
