Kanabrot is a Finnish singer-songwriter based band drawing its inspiration from one's inner landscape, both urban and rural, finnish melancholy, nature and night, day, joy and will to live. It has been established to carry out Matti Kanabro's musical ideas and because of this delighting liberty and uncompromising easiness of doing things by himself, the band has existed this far only as a studio band. It hasn't performed any gigs or other public shows due to its unstable line-up. The band has in fact only two permanent members; Matti, who is responsible for the music and the lyrics, and Ville, who takes care of all studio work and assists in guitar and piano playing. Before they recorded their first EP "Vihtorin ja Hilman kesävalssi" in 2003, these songs have played only in acoustic "man and guitar" -manner in the distant forests of Central Lapland of Finland.
In 2003 the recording line-up consisted of Ville on the vocals, Matti on the guitar and bass and Robi on the drums. At that time, the band recorded three songs: The Quest, Autumn Leaves and "Vihtorin ja Hilman Kesävalssi". This record didn't fulfill the expectations of the band members and ended up just one piece of practice in the field of Ville's studio learning.
By the time of recording the second EP "Myrskyssä", the band had evolved much in their playing and studio working skills. In this record, Matti had given up expressing himself through English lyrics and changed permanently to his mother language, Finnish. This meant that he would take the responsibility for the vocals, too. So the line-up for this studio session was Matti performing on vocals, guitar, bass and violin, Ville recording, mixing, and mastering, performing guitar and piano and Lassi who played drums and percussion. In this record there are 4 - 6 songs, depending on the edition. The pieces that are available to listen through this website appear on that EP.
Nowadays the lineup of the band is mainly a duo. Matti and Ville are making gigs occasionally here and there. On the stage, there is only two guys, two guitars, two voices and a violin. The style of the music has moved a bit more to the folkish impression since the bass and drums are no longer present, nor is the electric guitar. Acoustic songs and pieces. Music with no other tradition but today. Postmodern music without decent master, without genre. This is what we have become. Go figure. Have your say.
