Almost Autumn

About Me

The Band
Almost Autumn were formed in early 2007 to help fill the huge devoid of progressive/metal bands with Scottish origins. Jamie Moffat and faithful drummer David Campbell started the search for fellow musicians in February, and, luck would have it, Bobby Lindsay was on the look for a new band as his last one was less than musically rewarding. Mark McMillian was found by chance and joined in July 2007. The band met once in Lo-fi studios and they hit it off. Unfortunately other things took priority. Jamie was attempting to juggle a job, the band and his University work. Admittedly the band had came to a stand still exisiting merely in name. Mark found better opertunities else where and is now touring from what I've heard. We wish him the best of luck.Jamie is now unemployed and is coming to the accademic year with about five months of nothing to do there's never been a better time to try and get the band back on the go.

Singer Needed!
We are currently on the lookout for a vocalist - whether male or female please get in touch! All we ask is that you have some sort of demo ready. It would also be nice if you had some sort of songwriting skill but it's not vital. We think that a female vocalist would place an interesting slant on the prog metal formula so please don't hesitate.
We're not really on the lookout for any more members, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't get in contact. Perhaps you've been playing prog since the age of four and see yourself as some kind of prodigy. Who are we to tell you that you can't let us hear you? A second keyboardist may add an interesting flavour but this is not really vital as we already have a perfectly capable keysman.
If anyone is interested, and feels their up to the challenge, please contact Jamie, Bobby, David or contact the band via this Myspace.
Our Sound

We hope this band will be mainly focusing on a progressive/rock/metal sound that is a medium between the old styles of classic prog (Rush/Marillion/Yes) and the more modern styles of rock and metal (Dream Theater, Ayreon, Symphony X, Riverside)

A word from Jamie...

Hey people. It's all looking good for us the moment. For an explanation as to how the name Almost Autumn got chosen then check out the blogs. We've been in the studios and its seems like we'll all get along fine. Hopefully future ventures into the soundproof room will be more productive and less of a bonding time and I'm looking forward to some routine.Right, once again if there's anyone interested then please get in contact I ain't stopping you but please have something we can hear. We're not just taking your word for it at this stage.

We hope some of you are interested in the idea and will come to see us when we play some gigs.

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: Jamie Moffat
Lead Guitar/rhythm guitar/backing vocals

Jamie Moffat has always had an interest in a large variety of music. he was brought up surrounded by the music of Led Zeppelin, Rainbow and Deep Purple as well as a variety of hard rock and metal bands such as Metallica and Black Sabbath. As years progressed he was generally drawn more towards the guitarists, his first heroes being Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. He took up guitar shortly before starting high school and with no will to go to lessons he made do with anything the school gave him. From the age of fourteen he played with his dads band The Easy Riders who's pub blues style gave the opportunity to learn some simple chord progressions. Then he had began listening to many forms of metal learning tracks by Iron Maiden and Megadeth. Nowadays he is playing second lead guitar with the Spirit Bar house band "The Brothers of Intention" and is is influenced by many modern progressive musicians especially the guitarists Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, John Petrucci and Arjen Lucassen. His general interest in anything that sounds different has led him to attempt every chord, mode, scale and time signature he's been exposed to and if he can't play them then hey, at least he knows what they are. Yingwei who?

David Campbell
Drums/percussion/tea

David Campbell first started playing drums during his first year in high school. He had always wanted to try the drums and when the time came he attacked them. David has a variety of influences such as Lars Ulrich (Metallica), Phil Collins (Genesis), Terry Bozzio (Frank Zappa), Neil Peart (Rush) and Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater). Originally his preferred music style was Rock/Heavy Metal but slowly moved towards the more subtle progressive style because he enjoys a challenge. He never gives up and takes on an obstacle head on (literally). David is, as they say, Jamie's drummer, which is true for the reason that every band Jamie has been in, David has been the drummer. David also makes an excellent cup of tea which always raises moral.

Bobby Lindsay
Keyboard/piano/synth/organ/samples/vocoder/blazer

Bobby first picked up the keyboard at the age of four. Because of his inability to play anything, his parents never thought of buying him real lessons, so he was left to let his musical ability rot. He picked it up again at the age of 13 when he became progressively more interested in playing the keyboard after falling in love with his first favourite band, Genesis, and their keyboard player Tony Banks. He then blended the orchestration talents of Banks with the mildly insane antics of ELP's Keith Emerson and the showmanship of Rick Wakeman. It was only until a year and a half later that he realised he no longer wanted to be stuck in 1972 when he discovered Dream Theater. He now wishes to blend the skills (or lack of) that he learned from the progressive greats with the metal skills of Kevin Moore's impressive melody, Jordan Rudess' sheer incredibility and Derek Sherinian's sheer style all with a dash of Jazz fusion, his latest interest. Being a self taught musician, Bobby cannot read music, but this does not stop him from learning the classics :- Bach and Mussorgsky being two of his favourites. Seeing that he has only played for a bit over two years, this could be described as impressive. We won't mention that he cannot understand key signatures or notation (which could be described as unimpressive), but then again, that never stopped Bach, did it?
