Mezzo-soprano Christina Rosas is a seasoned recitalist, competitor, performer and teacher. Ms. Rosas’ voice is described as a wonderful mixture of warmth and brightness bringing a brighter shade to the lyric mezzo soprano repertoire.
Ms. Rosas will bring in 2007 as a member of the Opera Colorado Outreach Ensemble where she will perform throughout the state in operas & scenes. She will be singing the title role in the opera "La Curandera" which was commissioned by Opera Colorado. She will also be singing the role Theodorine in "The Island of Tullipatan".
In 2006, Ms. Rosas performed with Garden State Opera in La Cambiale di Matrimonio as Clarina as well as with the New York Chamber Players where she was a featured soloist in their Mozart 250th Birthday Celebration Concert. Ms. Rosas performed Rosina in "The Barber of Seville" Matinee Performance with the St. Petersburg Opera. She was a student of Nico Castel in the New York Opera Studio's production of La Traviata, in which she performed the roles Flora and Annina.
Other recent opera performances include Annio in "La Clemenza di Tito" with the One World Symphony, Pitti-Sing in "The Mikado" with Ridge Light Opera, La Sorella Infermiera in "Suor Angelica" with Garden State Opera and One World Symphony. Her other credits include Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro and Dinah in Trouble in Tahiti.
In March 2003, she was a top prize winner of the Orpheus National Vocal Competition in Murfreesboro, TN and a two-time first prize winner of the NATS Mid-South Region Advanced Women Competition. In May 2005, Ms. Rosas was a finalist at the Annual Classical Singer AudComps Young Artist Competition in New York City. She won first place at the Civic Morning Musicals Competition in Syracuse, NY in November 2005.
Under the tutelage of Claudia Catania, Ms. Rosas won first prize at the National Association of Teachers (NATS) of Singing NYC Chapter Competition in the Graduate/Professional Division, making her a three-time first prize winner in 2005.
While earning her Bachelor of Music degree from Florida Southern College she studied under world-renowned mezzo-soprano Beverly Wolff. Ms. Rosas then received her Master of Arts degree from Middle Tennessee State University, where she was awarded a full graduate teaching assistantship under Dr. Christine Isley-Farmer.
Ms. Rosas is also an active recitalist with collaborative artist Jason Hart. The duo recently performed literature from Poulenc to de Falla at the Harvard Club of New York City. The pair will be performing at Trinity Church on Wall Street this fall.
