About Me

I live in the Sunshine State of Australia but prefer to dwell on the darker side. My mind is filled with vampires, witches and other critters who go bump in the night. And I enjoy sharing through my writing.
My first book, The Darkness Within, has been released in Australia through Hachette Australia. It was developed from a short story written in partnership with, Mil Clayton while we were dating three states apart.
The story concerns a struggling photographer who finds out she has a week to save her niece from a power-hungry cabal of sorcerers, who want to feed on the family's magical powers. That the family has magical powers, and a guardian vampire as well, are just two of the surprises in store for Emily.
I work at a newspaper, mostly designing pages and subbing stories, but I do get to write articles: book and CD reviews, band and author interviews, some comedy, gig reviews... that kind of thing. In other words, the fun stuff!
My website includes a blog, links to more launch pictures from Brisbane (pictured below) and Melbourne, info on bands, tips for writers and more information on The Darkness Within, including hi-res press pix. Be a pleasure to see you there.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

I'm on MySpace to meet other writers, as well as industry folk like booksellers, and also musos and anyone else who can expand my awareness of the world around me, particularly through the arts or travel. There is so much good music and good storytelling out there, it helps to have friends to help you find it. I'm loving coming into contact with other people who are interested in the darker side of fantasy, too: vampires, werewolves, ghosts, classic horror movies and Gothic imagery.
The fanboy in me would like to meet Depeche Mode, Siouxsie Sioux, Terri Nunn and Ian Astbury, but I'd settle for a concert. Christopher Lee and Ingrid Pitt, Johnny Depp, Christina Ricci, Fairuza Balk, Rutger Hauer, Udo Keir. Mudrooroo. And Stephen King, just so I could truly feel not worthy.
Some gigs that have impressed me mightily include Concrete Blonde, Johnette Napolitano, The Tea Party and Nine Inch Nails. Got up the front for New Order - what is it about Atmosphere that brings a tear to the eye?

life on mars gets even stranger

Life on Mars is an awesome police drama out of the UK, in which the main character is essentially sent back in time from the present day to the 1970s. The conceit is, is the trip real? Or is he in a c...
