About Me
If one word were used to describe the voice of Tarryn Smith, it would be “pureâ€. Many who hear the Nashville singer-songwriter say that her sound reminds them of an edgier Allison Krauss or a young Dolly Parton, having an almost angelic clear tone mixed with powerful dynamics and high notes that flow with ease. She can be found every Friday afternoon at the Nashville Airport Tootsies singing and playing guitar for travelers around the US and world. She performs regularly at many of the well-known local venues, such as Douglas Corner Café, the Listening Room Café, and the historic Puckett’s Restaurant and Grocery in Franklin. She is also hired to play music at private parties, corporate events, and festivals. Tarryn has been a featured artist twice this past year on the Billy Block Local’s Only Show, held at the famous Tootsie’s Orchid Lounge on Broadway, with an interview and song from her album aired on 103.3FM WKDF, a popular Nashville country station. Her active presence in the music scene recently garnered her the “Entertainer Of The Year†award for WMBA, a prominent women’s music business organization in Nashville.Tarryn writes with some of the best songwriters on Music Row, including Steve Dean, who has worked with her in the studio as a producer as well. Steve has penned six number one’s including “Watching You†by Rodney Adkins, “Round About Way†by George Strait, and “Southern Star†by Alabama. “I like to write lyrics about real life and finding hope in spite of struggles,†Tarryn says, and she has an ear for matching those lyrics with melodies that draw in the listener. She is a positive person who believes in “Expecting Good Things,†as her song (co-written with Steve and Wil Nance) states that was recently cut by Jeff and Shari Easter, a gospel duo that tours with the Gaithers.Being raised in a musical family in small-town Indiana, Tarryn practically came into the world singing. She was performing by the age of three, and played throughout her elementary and teenage years with her sister and mom at many churches, local business functions, and recording studios. Her earliest memories include listening to Elvis, the Carpenters, and Olivia Newton John records, and she has been influenced by a diverse range of music, from country greats like Tammy Wynette and Willie Nelson to James Taylor, the Eagles, and Billy Joel.Tarryn traveled with the Singing Hoosiers while attending Indiana University, and then relocated to Nashville, TN, for Belmont University’s well-known music business program. After graduation, she gained valuable insight into the music industry while working in music publishing and artist management. She then left the business side to focus on her own music career, and for the past few years she has enjoyed being fully immersed in singing, songwriting, recording, and entertaining live audiences. And judging by the growing attention she is gaining from industry leaders and her increasing fan base, music is a passion she was meant to pursue.
