Javelinas! Ladies and gentlemen: Welcome to "El Rancho" in South Texas! This fan site is dedicated to the Fightin' Javelina Spirit of Texas A&I University in Kingsville. Founded in 1925 as South Texas State Teachers College, the university's name change in 1929 to Texas College of Arts and Industries (A&I)signaled the broadening of its mission. A 1967 name change to Texas A&I University marked another strongly supported transition. A&I became a member of The Texas A&M University System in 1989 and was assigned its current name in September 1993, despite great opposition from the Texas A&I Alumni Association and The Association of Former Students of Texas A&M. Today, most Texans and people around the world still affectionately refer to Javelina Country simply as "A&I." The letters "A&M" no longer have any explicit meaning. The letters "A&I" are retained as a link to the university's proud past from 1929-1993. Whether you're an alumnus, current student, future student or a friend, know that it's one of the greatest universities in the Lone Star State! Since 1925, Javelinas from Texas, the other 49 states, and from around the world, prove it year after year in athletics, fine arts, and academics.
