Tap Rhythm Project

About Me

Tap Rhythm Project is a not-for-profit social enterprise working to raise the profile of rhythm tap in the UK. Our activities combine creativity, fitness and cultural heritage ranging from regular drop in classes to tap jams, talks, film screenings and workshops with tap masters from all over the world. We aim to make tap dance activities accessible to communities and create opportunities for beginners to professionals to learn, perform, and share ideas.
Tap Rhythm Project Heather Cornell intensive workshop Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd November 2007 Zion Centre, 355 Stretford Road Manchester M15 5ZA.
Don’t miss this rare opportunity to experience rhythm tap from one of the most experienced and talented US tap artists around. The blend of original material from her mentors, the development of her own style of concert tap, and her extensive work in collaboration with top musicians in jazz and world music results in a teaching style that is rich with tradition, experience, musicality, and inspiration. Heather was mentored by many of the legendary Hoofers and has gone on to be artistic director of the acclaimed Manhattan Tap company which was responsible for training many of today’s generation of tap artists. These workshops are open to anyone with some experience of tap and you can even use a pair of our tap shoes for free. This a great opportunity for dance enthusiasts and professionals alike to get some ideas and inspiration. Heather will be teaching two courses, both run over 2 days.
Course 1: Eddie Brown's BS Chorus Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd 6:30 – 8:00pmEddie was Heather's second big influence as a mentor. His "classy tap" style, which consisted of incredibly complex rhythmic phrases, completely changed her approach to tap. This material is suitable for tappers of all levels of experience and is a wonderful legacy for rhythm tappers everywhere.
Course 2: Finding your feet Tuesday 20th and Thursday 22nd 8:00 – 9:30 pmHeather’s teaching technique blends first hand experience of the Masters of rhythm tap, whilst also opening up and exploring contemporary approaches to jazz and world music influences. Learn how to tune your Taps and find your creative voice through rhythm tap. You will work with music both improvisationally and choreographically, explore new arrangement ideas, and be challenged to develop an individual style. Although this class will look at advanced technique and footwork, it is open to anyone that enjoys a challenge
