About Me

Hey folks! Looking forward to seeing you at Lydia's on Friday, March 30th! Mayfly has been delighting Saskatchewan audiences for over 5 years – whether it’s for Regina Folk Festival or Richardson’s Roundup on CBC’s national radio broadcast, they deliver catchy and endearing acoustic pop tunes. Core members Lisa Unrau and Tracey Thompson collided in Saskatoon after several years of gigging around the country in separate bands from Toronto to Saltspring Island, B.C. They discovered a shared love of tight harmonies and afternoon pints on the patio. This led to inspired songwriting collaboration and some memorable shows when they joined forces with upright bass player Nicola Tabb and drummer Allan Long. They’ve been featured on CBC radio’s “Gallery”, a show dedicated to live music in the province; “Richardson’s Roundup” on CBC 2; CFCR’s “So Many Roads”; and ‘NessEssentials’, a centennial compilation of the province’s homegrown music. They’ve opened for the likes of Ian Tyson (he said, “I like them girls – I heard ‘em on the radio, you know? That one song about the girl?”), Juno award-winning Jennie Whitely, the Be Good Tanyas, and dozens more. They’ve shared festival stages with their heroes and pals at Regina Folk Festival, Ness Creek Festival, the Fringe, Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan, and Victoria Park Summer Festival. In 2002 they released ‘Nymphomania’ – a tongue-in-cheek title referring to the early life stage of the critter they’re named for. Along the way, they’ve played:Ness Creek Music Festival Regina Folk Festival Lydia’s Pub Amigo’s Cantina Fundraisers for Oxfam, Red Cross, Amnesty International and others CBC radio’s ‘Gallery’ Saskatoon’s Fringe Festival The Shakespeare Billy Tent CFCR’s ‘So Many Roads’ and many other nooks, street corners and watering holesand opened for:Ian Tyson - Broadway Theatre The Be Good Tanyas - Lydia's Pub Not a Love Song - The Refinery Jenny Whitely and countless (OK, not actually countless) others. These days they're graced by bassist Kim Fontaine and her rich harmonies (check out her myspace page!) and look forward to seeing you at their next show.
