Information about our project:
Broadcasting from May 2007, AfroReggae Digital will be the first internet radio coming live from Rio's Favelas.
The station will be entirely produced and presented by the children of the favelas with guest DJ slots from Brazil and the UKs most prestigious artists. AfroReggae Digital will fuse 60 existing social action campaigns run by AfroReggae, the Rio based NGO and internationally acclaimed Hip-Hop act.
AfroReggae Digital has the potential to play a big part in AfroReggae's goal to promote social inclusion and social justice. This radio station will help to bridge social divisions and allow residents from different favelas to speak out, share their issue, hear from each other and work together to help bring up a new generation; a generation not divided by the war mentality that has plagued their communities for so long. The station will offer the children of the favela an alternative to a life of violence and drug trafficing that otherwise awaits them.
The station will also give international listeners the platform to listen to cutting edge Brazilian music and find out whats really going down in Rio's streets.
The station is being set up by Izzy Fairbairn, BBC 1Xtra...
.. and Max Graef, Radioactive
Project also couldn't happen without the amazing talents of Mark Obscene, BBC Bristol / Hijack and Ritchie Mugshot, Salvador...
... and Dave & Muce, Decypher Media
