Steve Bernard, Esq.

I am probably better than you.

About Me

I was sick of my old blurb, but I'm not feeling lazy enough to write a new one.

My Interests

Art, science, philosophy. I guess that pretty much covers all of human culture, huh? This answer is the equivalent of saying "I like everything" when someone asks you what kind of music you like. Pretty lame. I'm also interested in robots.

I'd like to meet:

See above.

Music:

Several of my less intelligent friends recently told me I like "emo" music, but don't listen to them, it is a lie. I listen to a lot of indie rock these days, which is decidedly not the same thing as emo, and even then most of the stuff I listen to doesn't have a lot of "indie" cred. The Decemberists, The White Stripes and Franz Ferdinand are among my favorites. I also still love a few of the legendary 90's rock bands, such as Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails. Jeff Buckley's cover of Hallelujah is definitely among the top five greatest songs ever recorded.

Movies:

My favorites from last year include Little Miss Sunshine, The Departed and The Prestige. So far this year, Grindhouse has blown my mind by being the most fun I have ever had in a movie theater. It brings everything that "Snakes on a Plane" nonsense last year was supposed to deliver; It's ridiculous, bombastic and even clever. The Big Lebowski was and still is the greatest comedy movie ever filmed. That said, it's a good thing Grindhouse was awesome, because every summer blockbuster this year has been dogshit. I'm not going to call any of them out by name because they deserve to be forgotten.

Television:

Somehow, South Park is still pretty funny. I'm still mad at television for cancelling Stella.

Books:

My reading list so far this year: Tolstoy's Anna Karenina, the final Harry Potter book, Camus's The Stranger, Hesse's Narcissus and Goldmund, Dostoevsky's Notes from Underground, The Double, and The Gambler, Keyes's Flowers for Algernon, Shakespeare's Hamlet, and Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye. At the moment, I am being brainwashed by Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Some of my all time favorites would include The Brothers Karamazov, Siddhartha, Cat's Cradle, Dune, Lord of the Rings, Catch-22, etc., etc.

Heroes:

Carl Sagan, Odysseus, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Johnny Hart (not really, I'm glad Johnny Hart is dead).
